TRY Melton West Preschool offers a varied, innovative educational program within a friendly, safe and secure environment. Each child is unique and valued and through play we aim to provide opportunity for children to experience a wide range of situations and gain skills to help develop self-confidence, communication skills and a deeper understanding of the world in which they live. Within our learning environment, children can develop a sense of community and group identity, as well as strengthening individual identity. We aim to empower children with the skills, attitudes and knowledge that will help them to develop mutually respectful and rewarding relationships with people who are similar to and different from themselves. We aim to support and nurture each child’s sense of ‘Being, Belonging & Becoming’.
We believe that each child is capable and resourceful and able to contribute to his or her own learning. We acknowledge that each child’s journey is different and will be best guided using encouragement and positive reinforcement.
We believe in the value of families as partners in the education of their children and we seek ways in which we can connect with families, carers and the diverse and culturally varied community of which we are a part. We will communicate with families in a friendly manner, respecting confidentiality when discussing children’s development. We will work collaboratively with other professionals to provide optimal learning and development opportunities for children who may require additional assistance with their learning.
We believe that play is crucial to the development of children. It is the way they explore, discover and learn about their world, each other and themselves. Our programs are based on our observations of the children, the input of families and carers and our understanding of Early Childhood Principles and Practices. Our programs reflect the National Early Years Learning Framework, “Being, Belonging & Becoming” and the “Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework.”
We believe in providing a stimulating program that fosters curiosity, creativity and a love of learning. Learning through play allows children to explore, discover, wonder, experience, communicate, observe, reflect, create, collaborate, co-operate, problem-solve and imagine. Our programs are designed to facilitate these processes. Children are encouraged to exercise independence and choice and to initiate play ideas, to focus their attention and to achieve intrinsic satisfaction. We understand that children gain understanding of mathematical and literacy concepts through meaningful play and intentional teaching. We believe participation in incursions and excursions assist children in connecting with their community and learning more about the world in which they live.
